Britain would be stupid to join the euro
Sir, With his usual candour, Romano Prodi, European Commission president, has called the spending rules for the euro "stupid" ("Euro rules 'stupid', says Prodi", October 18).
The announcement by the German government that they would breach the rules limiting borrowing to 3 per cent of gross domestic product is the most recent in a long line of problems for the eurozone spending pact: the deadline
