Riksbank minutes reveal debate over monetary framework

Board members welcome debate over target variable and possible reinstatement of tolerance band

Sveriges Riksbank's executive board members welcomed a debate on the monetary framework but broadly recommended caution during the December 14 monetary policy meeting, according to minutes published today (January 8).

The debate was triggered by an earlier speech by deputy governor Per Jansson, who suggested the Riksbank could consider whether to change the target inflation variable and potentially reinstate the tolerance band around the 2% target. He noted the current target variable, CPI, can
