The stock of lending to businesses in the UK contracted by around £4 billion ($6.4 billion) in the three months to May, data in the Bank of England's Trends in Lending report, published on Thursday, shows.

The report, which presents the Bank's assessment of the latest trends in
lending to the UK economy, said the continued contraction in the stock of lending to businesses in large part reflected a decline in loans to small- and medium-sized enterprises, which it said were continuing to deleverage
