Reserve Bank of Malawi continues efforts to reform monetary policy framework

The Reserve Bank of Malawi will allow interest rates a "significantly expanded role" in its monetary policy framework as it progresses towards a fully fledged inflation targeting regime, officials have said.

Government and central bank representatives cited the interest rate corridor established in the interbank market as evidence, during a consultation with International Monetary Fund (IMF) staff.
