Former Bank of England deputy governor Charlie Bean has welcomed plans for legislative reform that would grant the Office for National Statistics (ONS) greater access to data held in the public sector.

Speaking at the annual ONS economic forum, Bean praised progress being made in changing the legal framework, describing the current arrangement as "cumbersome".
