Democrats on the US Senate Banking Committee have urged its chairman to clear the "backlog" of nominees to key public sector roles – including two vacancies on the Federal Reserve's board of governors.

Allan Landon and Kathryn Dominguez were nominated by US president Barack Obama to fill the vacancies in January and July last year. They are among 16 people left in limbo, a point of "deep concern" for the Democrats.
