Jean Baden Dubois named Bank of Haiti governor

Former director-general to lead central bank

Structural imbalances in the economy are fuelling the gourde's depreciation

Jean Baden Dubois has been appointed governor of the Bank of the Republic of Haiti, replacing Charles Castel who departs after eight years in the post.

Castel served as governor between September 2007 and December 2015. He initially joined the bank as an adviser to the governor in 1995, before leaving to work elsewhere in the public sector. In 2004, he returned to serve as director-general and a member of the board.
