BoE’s new MPC member grilled on financial assets

Gertjan Vlieghe faces questions on real or perceived conflict of interest

The UK's Treasury Committee challenged the Bank of England's (BoE) Gertjan Vlieghe on his financial links with former employer Brevan Howard during a hearing today (October 13).

Vlieghe is the monetary policy committee's (MPC) newest member, one of three external members. His appointment was announced in late July, and controversy quickly followed over a continued financial stake in asset manager Brevan Howard. He later sold the shares.

Vlieghe told the committee today he had mentioned the stake
