Draghi says sovereign bond-buying is on the table and under scrutiny

ECB considering a range of options, including government bond purchases

The European Central Bank (ECB) is preparing plans for further unconventional policies, with the purchase of government bonds under consideration and within the central bank's mandate, ECB president Mario Draghi said today.

"The governing council wants to be seen as being ready to act," Draghi said, in testimony before the European Parliament. He said staff at the ECB were considering a number of options for other assets it could add to its balance sheet.
