US senator calls for hearings into NY Fed supervision

A leading member of the US Senate Banking Committee has called for hearings into "disturbing" allegations of supervisory misconduct at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York following the release of secretly taped conversations between officials at the bank.

The recordings, which have sparked considerable attention in the US media over the weekend, were released jointly by Propublica, a non-profit media organisation, and This American Life, a public radio show, on September 26.
