Ukraine appoints revolutionary leader to head up central bank

National Bank of Ukraine governor Igor Sorkin today resigned - and was immediately replaced by a member of parliament who has spent the last few weeks as a leading figure in Ukraine's revolutionary movement.

Stepan Kubiv, who was today approved by parliament as the new governor after the same body voted to accept Sorkin's resignation, is a member of parliament in the ‘Fatherland' party and deputy chair of the parliamentary committee on banking and finance.
