
Demoted Myanmar governor ‘allowed' to quit central bank

A former governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar (CBM) who was demoted to vice-governor this summer has tendered his resignation from the central bank, which was accepted by the country's president this week.
Than Nyein was appointed vice-governor at the end of July this year, and replaced in the top job by Kyaw Kyaw Maung, who had been governor from 1997 until he was replaced by Than Nyein in 2007. Myanmar president Thein Sein said this week Than Nyein had been "allowed to resign of his own
