UK economy near escape velocity already, say ex-MPC members

The UK economy may have reached ‘escape velocity' already, according to three former members of the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), who this morning took an optimistic view of UK economic data at an event in London.

Speaking at Fathom Consulting's quarterly Monetary Policy Forum, DeAnne Julius, John Gieve and Charles Goodhart broadly agreed there is a good chance the UK is now on the road to recovery – but Gieve, a former deputy governor at the central bank, pointed out that
