Carney prioritises 'women on banknotes' issue

Bank of England governor Mark Carney

Mark Carney is reviewing how the Bank of England selects the historical figures that appear on the UK's banknotes – after raising the issue during his first day in office.

Carney says he is discussing with colleagues "how best to ensure" the banknotes represent "the diversity of great British historical figures", and says the topic will be raised at the next meeting of the Court of the Bank of England on July 17.

Mary Macleod, a UK member of parliament (MP), wrote to Carney on Monday objecting
