Carney appoints Bank of England's first-ever chief operating officer

The Bank of England (BoE) today appointed Charlotte Hogg, currently head of retail distribution and intermediaries at Santander, to the BoE's newly created position of chief operating officer (COO) – marking the first appointment of incoming governor Mark Carney.

Hogg will start on July 1, the same day as Carney takes over from Mervyn King as governor. The news comes in the same week as deputy governor Paul Tucker announced he is to leave the bank later this year.
