Bowles: Give ECB its ‘smoke and mirrors'


Sharon Bowles, the British member of the European Parliament (MEP) who chairs the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, today told that the European Central Bank (ECB) must retain an element of mystery to keep Europe's currency union intact.

One of the key roles of Bowles' committee at the European Parliament, known as Econ, is to scrutinise the ECB. One of the central bank's most controversial episodes yet has been its involvement in the rescue of Cyprus's banking
