Nalm 2013: Delegates debate reigniting European ABS market

Senior current and former officials at the European Central Bank (ECB) engaged in lively discussion on how to fix impaired financial markets in Europe, including how to revitalise the asset-backed securities (ABSs) market, which collapsed in 2008.

The focus was particularly on collateralised markets, such as the use of repurchase agreements for bank funding and the utilisation of ABSs for risk management purposes. There was a view that unfunded markets may never recover in the post-crisis world
