UK banks must remain under national supervision, says Lloyds chief

Win Bischoff, chairman of Lloyds Banking Group, believes UK banks should remain under the supervision of national regulatory bodies, despite endorsing efforts for a common regulatory rulebook in the European Union.

Bischoff, speaking at a conference entitled the Emerging Regulatory Structure for the UK Banking Industry in London on June 13, said the introduction of a pan-European rulebook for banking supervision had "considerable merit" as it would ensure "consistency in Europe" and ensure there
