Central Bank of Brazil blasts report of lost autonomy

The Central Bank of Brazil today (May 9) issued a short statement denying claims in a recent press report that the central bank had lost its autonomy in monetary policy decision making.

Denying the claims in an article published in the daily newspaper O Estado de S.Paulo, the governor of the central bank, Alexandre Tombini, said Brazil is a country where freedom of opinion and thought prevails, including when it comes to monetary policy.
