Demetriades to take over as Central Bank of Cyprus governor

The president of Cyprus, Dimitris Christofias, has named Panicos Demetriades as the new governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus. He will replace incumbent Athanasios Orphanides on May 3.

The role of governor at the Central Bank of Cyprus is renewable every five years, subject to presidential approval. However, MIT-educated Orphanides – as with his predecessor Christodoulos Christodoulou – was not granted a second term, a Central Bank of Cyprus spokeswoman confirmed.
