Former Bank of Haiti governor shot dead

Venel Joseph, a former governor of the Bank of Haiti, was shot dead in his car in Port-au-Prince on March 7.

Joseph was head of the central bank between August 2001 and March 2004, when Jean-Bertrand Aristide was president of the country.

The former governor's son, Patrick Joseph, is currently caught up in a bribery scandal in the US. He has been co-operating with US prosecutors in an investigation into a multimillion-dollar scheme involving payments by US telecommunications companies to
