Bank of Estonia to reveal travel statistics gleaned from mobile positioning data
The Bank of Estonia today announced it will begin publishing international travel statistics based on mobile positioning data, as gathered by network operators.
Mobile positioning data tracks users' phone roaming activity, such as calls, SMS, data transmission operation and so on, in the coverage area of foreign mobile operators. The Estonian central bank has been utilising this type of data in calculating its balance of payments accounts, which provide a record of all monetary transactions
