Australian central bank appoints new assistant governor

The Reserve Bank of Australia on February 2 announced Christopher Kent will replace Philip Lowe as assistant governor (economic) when Lowe becomes deputy governor of the central bank on February 14.

Kent is currently head of the payments policy department and was selected after a recruitment process that considered both internal and external candidates, said the central bank.

Kent has a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an honours degree in economics from the Australian
