DSK moots reserves role for SDR

Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the managing director of the IMF, on Thursday called for a reconsideration of the special drawing right (SDR) as a global reserve currency.

Strauss-Kahn said in Washington, DC: "Over time, there may be a role for the SDR to contribute to a more stable international monetary system."

The SDR is currently a unit of account used by some multilateral organisations with no assets denominated in it. However, Strauss-Kahn reasoned that it could be used as the basis for bonds
