Bank Negara Malaysia promotes three directors to assistant governor

Three directors at the Bank Negara Malaysia have been promoted to assistant governor, the Malaysian central bank said Thursday.

The central bank said Donald Joshua Jaganathan, the director of finance; Abu Hassan Alshari bin Yahaya, the director of corporate communications; and Marzunisham bin Omar, the director of economics would take on the position of assistant governor from Tuesday. They join existing assistant governors Sukhdave Singh, Bakarudin Ishak, Norzila binti Abdul Aziz and Jessica Chew Cheng Lian.

Donald will report to deputy governor Nor Shamsiah binti Mohd Yunus and will be responsible for the central bank's financial conglomerates supervision, insurance, takaful supervision and banking supervision departments. He previously served at the central bank in the areas of insurance and banking supervision, insurance regulation, financial surveillance and strategic management. Donald graduated from the University of Malaya and holds an MBA from Cranfield School of Management in the United Kingdom. He is also a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants.

Abu Hassan replaces Nor Mashoract as the secretary to the board of directors. Abu Hassan will also oversee several departments including finance, strategic communications, corporate services, property management services, the central bank's integrated contact centre and regional offices, the security department, and the museum and art gallery. Abu Hassan holds a degree in economics from Monash University in Australia. He will report to deputy governor Muhammad bin Ibrahim.

Marzunisham will report to deputy governor Mohd Razif bin Abd Kadir and will be responsible for the central bank's strategic human capital, strategic management, human capital development centre and IT services departments, as well as human resources. Marzunisham serves on Bank Negara Malaysia's monetary policy committee, and was previously involved in the central bank's international and bank regulation departments. Marzunisham holds bachelor's and master's degrees in economics from the University of Cambridge.
