King takes firm line on QE, direct lending


Although small and medium enterprises are facing an uphill struggle in obtaining funds, help from the Bank of England in the form of further quantitative easing (QE) would not be an appropriate solution, Mervyn King, the governor of the central bank, said on Wednesday.
