Chan named new HKMA chief

hong-kong

Norman Chan has been appointed as the new head of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), replacing Joseph Yam who will leave the organisation after 16 years at the helm.

Chan's first day in his new job will be 1 October.

The choice is in line with expectations as Chan was identified as a front-runner for the chief executive position ever since Yam confirmed his retirement plans in May this year. Chan is widely seen as a save pair hands, having served as director of the chief executive's office
