German finance minister warns ECB on liquidity overhang
Peer Steinbrück, Germany's finance minister, has warned that the European Central Bank (ECB) must ensure it drains excess liquidity from the financial system quickly in order to avoid inflation.
Steinbrück on Monday evening noted that eurozone inflation, which is now in negative territory, was not problematic at the moment but said in the medium term he kept a "jealous watch" over the "enormous" amounts of liquidity injected into financial markets.
