Single currency for Russia and Belarus agreed

RUSSIA - Senior central bankers and politicians of Russia and Belarus have signed an agreement on cooperating towards the introduction of a single currency by 2005.

The agreement was signed on June 4 by the Russian central bank chairman, Sergei Ignatyev, together with Russia's prime minister, Mikhail Kasyanov, while representing Belarus were Pavel Kalaur, first deputy head of the National Bank of Belarus, and Gennady Novitsky, the head of the Belarussian cabinet of ministers.
