Chilean Senate approves new Central Bank director

Chile's senate has approved the appointment of Vittorio Corbo to the board of directors of the Central Bank of Chile. President Ricardo Lagos is widely expected to name him as the new central bank chief shortly.

Chile's Senate ratified on Tuesday the appointment of economist Vittorio Corbo to the Central Bank board of directors, paving the way for him to become the next Central Bank Governor.

The Senate vote, in which 40 approved of Corbo's appointment and six opposed it, permits
