Vietnam government calls on CB to stabilise dong

Nguyen Sinh Hung, Vietnam's deputy prime minister, has asked the State Bank of Vietnam to stabilise the value of the dong currency against the dollar.

According to Reuters, Nguyen said the central bank, which bought $7 billion in the first seven months of 2007 but has recently purchased fewer dollars, was "to focus on continuing purchases of foreign currencies to add to the national foreign exchange reserves."
