Central bank independence discussed in Iran

A senior banking expert said on Sunday that the independence of Central Bank of Iran (CBI) could help bring about economic stability and preserve the value of the national currency.

Ahmad Mojtahed, who heads the Banking and Monetary Research Institute, told ISNA that the initiative seeks mainly to help the CBI overcome pressures by various state organizations over the next five years, when the key fourth five-year development plan is in force.
