Russia to issue more secure bank notes

The central bank of Russia is planning to issue new-look bank notes later this year in an effort to beat counterfeiters.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday 6 January, First Deputy Chairman Arnold Voilukov of the Central Bank of Russia said there is no need for a run on the bank, however. "There will be no exchange," he said. Anyone finding a stash of old rubles in years to come will be able to use them "at any time." The new notes will incorporate a colour-changing foil stripe as well
