Russian premier wants relaxed currency regulation

At Thursdays meeting of the cabinet, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov stressed the need to liberalise currency regulation in the country. As we reported Wednesday, the proposal has divided politicians and the central bank with the latter calling for a more restrained approach to liberalisation.

The prime minister said that it was necessary to move over from the procedure of authorisation which existed previously to the principle of notification when currency operations are carried out.
