Canada's Martin mum on central bank chief

Canada's finance minister Paul Martin on Tuesday refused to shed any light on who the government will choose as the next governor of the country's central bank.

"I have always said that once the bank has completed its work, then we will react very swiftly," Martin said in response to a reporter's question about a successor to Bank of Canada governor Gordon Thiessen, who will retire from his post at the end of January.

Procedure dictates that the central bank's board puts forward an appointment
