Polish inflation to stay below 3.5% until 2009

Slawomir Skrzypek, the governor of the National Bank of Poland, says inflation will not top 3.5% in the next two years. Interest rates, he added, should remain unchanged as a result.

Speaking to the Gazeta Prawna newspaper, Skrzypek said the consumer price index is unlikely to exceed 3.5%, the upper limit of the bank's inflation target, because inflationary risks were balanced.

The governor's comments follow July's inflation report, which noted that the medium term probability of inflation rising
