Economist may be top candidate for Fed role

US - A highly regarded economist is one of the top candidates for one of two vacancies on the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, an administration official said Wednesday.

The official, who requested anonymity, declined to name the economist, but confirmed analysts' expectations that an economist would be sought for at least one of the open positions on the board.
