Bundesbank - 10% D mark bills still in circulation

GERMANY - The amount of Deutsche mark bills still in circulation is about 10% of the level at the end of 2000, the Deutsche Bundesbank said Friday.

That means that about DEM26.9 billion (EUR1=DEM1.9558) haven't been exchanged for euros since the new currency went into circulation Jan. 1, the Bundesbank said.

As for the former German Deutsche mark coins, 54% of the number in circulation at the end of 2000 are still changing hands, the Bundesbank said. That's about DEM8.7 billion.
