ECB's Duisenberg-euro's reserve role slowly rising

SPAIN - The euro's use as an international currency is rising but only gradually, European Central Bank President Wim Duisenberg said on Sunday.

The ECB did not intend to actively tout the euro as an international currency.

However, the central bank's focus on healthy economic policies ultimately would help the euro become more important on the international stage, Duisenberg told a seminar on the international role and use of the euro held to coincide with a EU finance ministers meeting in Spain
