Canada- outspoken board member not re-appointed

CANADA - Raymond Garneau, a former Quebec Liberal finance minister, has not been reappointed to the the board of the Bank of Canada after he publicly called for Prime Minister Jean Chretien to resign.

After Mr. Martin's firing, Mr. Garneau told Quebec City's Le Soleil that Mr. Chretien should resign to allow the Liberal Party to renew itself.

Mr. Garneau said he learned this week that he would not be reappointed, though he refused to speculate on the reasons.
