Japan's Ito repeats call for BOJ inflation target

An academic linked to the race for top spot at Japan's central bank reiterated on Thursday his view that the bank should adopt a controversial policy targeting inflation to reverse Japan's steadily falling prices.

Takatoshi Ito, who declined any comment on whether he is a candidate for Bank of Japan governor, told a forum that inflation targeting should be the main part of a package of policy measures to be implemented as soon as possible.
