ECB's Trichet calls for debate on company profits

European Central Bank president Jean-Claude Trichet has called for a European debate on the way company profits are distributed.

Asked by Swiss weekly newspaper Cash about concerns about stagnating or falling wages while company profits are exploding, Trichet said that the issue is a "real problem".

The magazine quotes him as saying that the distribution of wealth is one of the "fundamental problems of our democracies".

Asked about the high level of compensation received by CEOs, Trichet said that
