German minister sees early UK use of euro

GERMANY - Hans Eichel, Germany's finance minister, yesterday predicted that Britain would join the euro "in the not too distant future", in comments likely to renew debate on the single currency.

In his most explicit statements to date on Britain and the euro, Mr Eichel said in a prepared speech that "an increasing number of European countries want to adopt it (the euro).
