Bank of Greece to up 2000 dividend

Bank of Greece, the country's central bank, said on Mar 8 that net profit in fiscal 2000 rose 52 percent to 167.2 billion drachmas ($457 million) versus 110.1 billion in 1999.

The central bank, whose shares trade on the Athens stock exchange, said it will propose a 42.8 percent higher dividend per share for 2000 - 1,000 drachmas versus 700 in 1999. Its shares jumped 8.1 percent to 78 euros on Mar 8 in anticipation of a rich dividend. The dividend yield currently is 3.76 percent.
