Zimbabwe set for new currency

Gideon Gono, the governor of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, said on Wednesday that the issue of a new currency was imminent, after announcing just over a fortnight ago that it would be delayed until 2008.

"The Reserve Bank has now put in place all the machinery to enable the implementation of a short and precise change-over programme, which would be completed in a matter of days," Gono told local media.

"The actual change-over will be done without prior notice beyond what we are saying here,"
