Belgium sees electronic banking on the rise

Some 12.5 billion Belgian francs have still not been exchanged for euros, nearly a year after the single currency was introduced, according to the latest report from the country's central bank Monday.

Bank Governor Guy Quaden said in his evaluation of the single currency that since the euro notes and coins came into circulation on 1 January, the use of the reloadable pay card has doubled, from 165,000 to 330,000 times a day.

Credit cards were used 1.4 million time per day, he said.
