ECB rate cut not ruled out: Belgian board

BELGIUM - Belgian national bank chief Guy Quaden, a member of the European Central Bank board, declined Tuesday to rule out an ECB interest rate cut.

"If it appeared that a cut in rates by the ECB would contribute to reducing general pessimism, I do not rule it out," he told the Belgian daily Le Soir.

The comments were the first explicit sign by an ECB official of a possible rate cut as a response to slowing growth in the 12-member euro zone.
