Economy minister quits amid crisis in Argentina

ARGENTINA - Argentina's economy minister resigned from office yesterday, throwing the country's economic course into question and the government into fresh disarray.

Jorge Remes Lenicov became the fifth economy minister to quit his post since Argentina's economy fell into crisis at the end of 2000. He made the decision after failing to secure congressional support for an emergency law converting 45bn pesos ( £10bn) in bank deposits into long-term bonds.
