Trichet urges 'ambitious' reforms in France

FRANCE - Jean-Claude Trichet, the governor of the Bank of France, yesterday threw his weight behind efforts to reshape the centralised French economy with a call for "ambitious structural reforms".

Mr Trichet, who is tipped as a likely next head of the European Central Bank, also insisted on the importance of adhering to the eurozone's stability and growth pact - the budget deficit control mechanism recently called into question by politicians in France and other European countries.
