ECB urges EU banks to improve risk assessments

The European Central Bank on Dec 20 urged banks to improve the way they assess credit and internal risks, saying regulators would keep a close watch on banks' lending practices. The ECB said European Union banks had "broadly satisfactory" performance in lending but said there were concerns about less-stringent requirements on how much collateral banks have to set aside to cover outstanding loans."In general, supervisory authorities are keeping a close watch on the lending practices of banks,"
